The Mission Hospital & AHPI collaborates towards a giant leap in Infection Control in this part of the country
Infection is a major killer in all clinical set up, preventing and ameliorating it is one of the major challenges in the Health Care Industry. With indiscriminate use of antibiotics, there is emergence of newer stains of bugs with antibiotic resistance. The focus should be more on prevention rather than allowing infection to occur and then treating it, thus ensuring patient safety and enhancing quality of care.
In tandem with these facets, The Mission Hospital advances one more step towards its commitment towards patient safety and quality of care in this part of the region. The healthcare fraternity of Durgapur witnessed the forging of a great partnership between The Mission Hospital, Durgapur & AHPI towards development of an infection free ambience in the hospital through training, advocacy and capacity building. Train the trainers’ concept of educating and training the sister in charges, the trainers who would then disseminate the knowledge to the other health care workers had been the prime intent of such a partnership. Dr.Satyajit Bose, Chairman & Senior Cardiac Surgeon remarked that this is a new era of training towards development of a healthcare taskforce who would be the chief disseminators of such knowledge to all the nursing staff and technicians who are in constant touch of patients.
The partnership was flagged by the “Quality Man of India”, Dr.Girdhar J.Gyani who was present himself to address the media and the other distinguished guests on “Minimising medical errors through Infection Control.” He also announced the launch of the Certified Infection Prevention and Control Course, the first of its kind course in this region.
Dr,Gyani is a person who does not need an introduction in the healthcare fraternity, but for the greater masses, it may be proclaimed that Dr. Girdhar J. Gyani is founder Director General of newly constituted "Association of Healthcare Providers (India)", whose prime objective is Educating and advocating for the well being of common man. He has also served as the Secretary General, Quality Council of India and is regarded as the prime founder of NABH. Dr. Gyani has distinction of serving as elected director on board of International Accreditation Forum (IAF) for 6-years (2004-10), where he worked on "Quality for National Well Being".
Also, Dr Gyani was elected as director on the Board of ISQua for year 2009-11 and re-elected for years 2011-14.
SME World Magazine in its cover story of June 2012 issue has very deservingly depicted him as Quality Man of India.
Dr.Gyani visited The Mission Hospital, the only NABH accredited hospital outside Kolkata in Eastern India for the first time for such a noble cause of infection prevention and control strengthening, training and advocacy.
Dr. Satyajit Bose, Chairman, The Mission Hospital said that the hospital has always shown dedication in all its initiatives towards a firm commitment of Quality Quaternary Health Care Delivery in spite of several resource crunch situations. Moreover he asserted the fact that Quality is the one thing on which the hospital thrives on. This collaboration would go a long way in infusing the culture of Quality and Patient Safety in the healthcare fraternity in a more enhanced manner. It would be the first of its kind course to be done in collaboration with AHPI by hospitals in Eastern India outside Kolkata.
